Help Democratic Candidates Get on the 2026 Primary Ballot

Candidates for county, state, and federal offices need petition signatures to get on the 2026 primary election ballot—and they need your help! Join us at Donuts for Democrats from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, August 24, at Crawford Warming House, 817 West Lake Street, Libertyville.

This popular Libertyville Township Democrats tradition is designed for those in a hurry as well as those wanting to get to know the candidates and mingle with fellow Democrats. If you’ve just got 10 minutes, you can grab a donut, sign some petitions, and be on your way. If you have more time, you’re welcome to get to know the candidates over coffee and donuts. We hope to see you there.

Candidates for the state legislature, countywide offices, Congress, and precinct committeepersons are gathering signatures of registered voters to qualify for the Tuesday, March 17, Primary General Election. Winners of the Primary Election will advance to the November 3, 2026, General Election. (One exception is that party precinct committeepersons are elected in even-year primaries.)

To sign a petition, you must be a registered voter. Registered voters may sign petitions for more than one Democrat running for the same office, but cannot sign a petition for both a Democrat and a Republican running for the same office.

The deadline for candidates to file petitions is Monday, November 3. Petitions may also be turned in at the County Clerk’s Office, 18 N. County Street, Room 101 in Waukegan as early as Monday, October 27.

Visit Democratic Lake County Clerk Anthony Vega’s official website for detailed information on everything election-related.

Libertyville Township Democrats are volunteers working to elect Democrats at local, state, and national levels—the official Democratic Party organization in Libertyville Township, Illinois. Despite the name, the township borders extend well beyond the village of Libertyville to include parts of Mundelein, Vernon Hills, Green Oaks, Mettawa, and Lake Forest. (See the township map.)
